Grilled Barbecued Bacon-Chicken Skewers

(Makes 15 Skewers)

15 bamboo skewers (6 inch) ($.57)
3 large boneless skinless chicken breasts (about 1 lb) ($2.98)
4 large green onions ($.29)
1 package (2.1 oz) refrigerated fully cooked bacon (15 pieces) ($1.42)
1/2 cup barbecue sauce ($.32)

1. Soak skewers in water at least 30 minutes to prevent burning. Meanwhile, cut each chicken breast in half lengthwise, then cut crosswise to make 10 (about 1-inch) pieces. Cut onions into 2-inch pieces (30 pieces total). Cut bacon slices in half crosswise.

2. Heat gas or charcoal grill. Push 1 skewer through end of 1 bacon piece, then through middle of 1 chicken piece and back through other end of bacon piece; add 2 onion pieces, then repeat with another bacon piece and chicken piece. Place on large plate or tray. Repeat to make remaining kabobs.

3. Place kabobs on grill over medium heat. Cover grill; cook 5 minutes. Turn kabobs; brush with half of the barbecue sauce. Cover; cook 5 minutes. Turn kabobs; brush with remaining sauce. Cover; cook about 1 minute longer or until chicken is no longer pink in center. If desired, serve with additional barbecue sauce for dipping.

Shopping

When I placed my Safeway order I wanted to make sure I got a little bit of everything. I ordered cereals, fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, fresh meats, frozen items and some laundry supplies.
Shopping the site was very easy – you can either shop by aisle, or by specials. I shopped by aisle. Another thing I liked about online shopping is that I could have my recipes and menu plan open in one window and Safeway in another, adding all of the ingredients I needed into my cart!

Delivery

Delivery is available from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. You can choose from different times/days and a 2 hour or 4 hour delivery window and the prices range from $12.95 down to $6.95. A later date and/or longer delivery window costs less. I chose a 2 hour delivery window the next day which would have been $9.95 if I didn’t have a discount code. My delivery was actually 15 minutes early – so not only did I shop in my pajamas, I received my order in them (oops).

Quality

I was really impressed with what I received! My apples and bananas were nice and fresh, without bruises or brown marks. My bags of spinach had a expiration date almost two weeks into the future – so they really seem to make an effort to choose the freshest items.

I also ordered chicken breasts (which were B1G1). My second package of breasts was only $0.03 less than my first pack – I was happy with that since I always try to get my free package as big as I can! Gotta make that sale work!

If any of your items are out of stock, you can choose to have them substitute it or take it off your order. Because I was using coupons I chose to have them left off my order – they were out of stock of my cereal and bread.

Coupons

There are links on the Safeway shopping site for ecoupons - Shortuts, P&G eSaver and Cellfire. You just load them to your Safeway card. I used all 3 and they worked! There were some nice high value coupons - $3 off of Tide detergent in addition to the Tide being on sale was a great deal.

They are also offering a promotional code for $7 and free shipping off of your first order – use the code NORTHWEST.

When your complete your order, you will get an estimated total. This is before coupons, delivery charges, items out of stock, etc. My original estimated total was $103.50, my actual total was $80.17 (which was $16.95 over because they didn’t apply my promotional code).
My club card savings were $47.96 even without using ecoupons.

Customer Service

There was actually a mistake on my order – my promotional code wasn’t applied. I emailed them and they responded back within a couple of hours and applied the credit back to my card.
Overall

Thumbs up! I will definitely be placing more orders in the future!

More ways to save money

There are some great sites out there providing us with lots of savings.  They seem to be popping up everywhere.  I enjoy buying these money saving coupons. Yesterday I picked up the $50 Gap coupon for only $25.  There is also a 1/2 price coupon for one of my favorite restaurants right now; $50 gift certificate for $25.  Some of these sites are daily specials (change daily), so I check on a regular basis. They have helped me save so much money. It's really hard for me to go to a restaurant these days if I don't have a coupon.

Free Prevention gym kit when you buy Colgate Total at Walgreen's

Today I purchased some items at Walgreen's and one of them was the Colgate Total that is on sale for $1.99, I used a $1/1 coupon; total price being $.99.  After purchasing my items I received a promotional offer from the Catalina machine for a Healthy Survival kit.  Now I have to say I don't pay too much attention to most of these advertisements because normally you have to buy something else in order to use it.  For some reason I started reading it and it didn't talk about what I needed to purchase, it said "send original receipt".  I knew that didn't sound right so I search the internet and found my qualifying product was the Colgate I purchased for $.99!  Thank you to wildforwags.com.

So get into Walgreen's and pick up your $1.99 Colgate; I'm sure you have a Colgate coupon laying around and get your free gym kit!

If you have an older receipt with Colgate Total on it that would qualify also; receipt dates are 7/27/10 - 8/31/10.

1/2 price appetizers at Applebees for lunch

My cousin and I had lunch at Applebees last week in Richland, WA.  When we walked in they asked if we would like to sit in the bar area; and if we sit in the bar area the appetizers were 1/2 price. I don't know if this is all the time, but the restaurant had seats throughout the place so it didn't seem like they were recruiting to sit in the bar because of seating.  So for lunch I had the Won Ton tacos and water with lemon.  My check was $3.56. Can't beat that for lunch! I will find out the scoop and let you know. We can go out to lunch more often at that price.
