Costco Vs WinCo - Sweet Baby Ray's Barbecue Sauce

I did a little comparison shopping when I spotted the double pack of Sweet Baby Ray's Barbecue Sauce at Costco (for those of you that your Costco membership fee is worth it).

Costco - $4.99 for 2 pack of 40oz bottles (that is $.062 per ounce)
WinCo - $1.68 for 18oz bottles; purchase two bottle and add the $1/2 coupon that is found in 5/23 SS (that would be $.065 per ounce with the coupon)

Wow, they are very close in price, so I think it would depend on how much sauce you would use.  I think we would be fine with the 18oz bottles.  With or without the coupon Costco would be the best price.

I have saved $1,537.96 so far this year!!

My weekly spending 5/23 – 5/29

My grocery budget is $500 a month ($125 a week) for my family of 4. This includes food, cleaners, personal hygiene items, and sometimes a few miscellaneous items. By shopping sales, using coupons, and stockpiling when prices hit rock bottom I have saved $1,537.96 so far this year. Setting a budget really helps to control your spending. I give myself a realistic budget and stay as close to it as possible.

This week my shopping was done at Walgreen's, Big Lots, and WinCo.

Monthly Budget $500
Spent $496.41 ($3.59 under budget for the month)
Saved $259.58

I love tracking my spending; I enjoy seeing how much I save.

Prevent Type two diabetes from Patricia Harris

Thank you to Patricia Harris from the diabetic diet plan blog for this article

If You Don't Prevent Type two diabetes Now, You'll Hate Yourself Later

Diabetes type 2 is the most common form of diabetes. Millions of Americans appears to have been told they have diabetes type 2 symptoms, and others are unsuspecting they may be at high risk. Some groups have a very higher risk for developing type 2 diabetes than others.

Diabetes type 2 is much more common in African Americans, Latinos, Indigenous Americans, and Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians together with other Pacific Islanders, in addition to aged people.

In diabetes type 2, either our body isn't going to produce enough insulin or the cells ignore the insulin. Insulin is essential for the body to be able to use glucose for energy. Any time you eat food, the body breaks down all the sugars and starches into glucose,
which is the essential fuel for your cells in your body. Insulin takes the sugar from blood in the cells. When glucose builds up inside the blood rather then going into cells, it can result in diabetes complications.

You have the power to enhance and protect your health. With proper nutrition and exercising and by making good life style choices (like not smoking), it is possible to feel better, stronger, and healthier, and can reduce your risk of diseases like the cancer, diabetes, heart disease and stroke.

What is Healthy Weight?

There's a good way to understand if your current weight puts you at risk for developing serious diseases. Look at http://www.diabetes.org/bmi and consider the Body Mass Index (BMI) test. The results will let you decide if you need to stress about your weight.

The Better You consume, The Better You are. Here are some basic guidelines to help you and your family make healthier food decisions.

* Eat a lot of fruit and veggies.

* Choose whole fiber foods over processed grain products.

Try brown rice as a substitute for white. Substitute whole wheat bread for white.

* Eat fish 2 times 3 times weekly.

* Select leaner cuts of meat like the ones that end in "loin."

* Remove the skin from chicken and turkey.

* Eat non-fat dairy

* Drink water and calorie-free non-carbonated liquids.

* Use liquid oils for cooking instead of solid fats.

* Minimize high calorie snacks like chips, cookies, cakes, and regular ice cream.

Try to find baked chips and reduced calorie snacks. Or have some fruit instead.

* Watch your serving sizes. Even a lot "healthy" food may cause an increase in weight.

Tips:

* Compare labels of similar foods, then opt for the one with smaller amounts of saturated fat, cholesterol and sodium.

* Adults should eat under 2400 mg. of sodium daily. For people with high blood pressure, it is best to aim for even less.

* Try adding spices and herbs as part of your cooking to replace salt for enhancing flavor.

Just a little Work out Goes a long way. Anything that gets you up and moving is designed for you. Some tips about what it may do:

* Lower your risk of developing diabetes type 2 symptoms

* Lower your risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke Lower hypertension and cholesterol

* Reduce blood glucose (sugar) levels in case you have diabetes, which often can reduce your risk of developing diabetes-related complications

* Decrease tension * Assist you to drop some weight

* Provide you with more energy

* Help you sleep better

* Build stronger bones and muscle mass

Its not necessary to go to a gym, play sports or use fancy equipment. Naturally, you should speak with your physician prior to starting any exercise regimen.

When you have Diabetes eating healthy and staying active are a lot more important when you have diabetes. Well-balanced meals might help keep your glucose (sugar) level as nearly normal as it can be. Being active likewise helps you decrease your blood glucose. If you increase your physical activity levels, you might possibly take less insulin or diabetes pills. For anyone who is very inactive, have heart disease or even a history of foot ulcers, talk to your doctor about safe exercise in your case.

Check your blood glucose before exercising. If it's under 100 mg/dl, eat some fruit, crackers or have a glass of milk or juice.

Check it again after exercising to find out how your blood glucose reacts to workout. Bring a snack if you will be active for a few hour.

WinCo $5 Bargain Meals - all ingredients purchased at WinCo Foods
I am happy to participate in the 5 dollar dinners Bargain Meal of the Week.
For more low budget meals to go Bargain Meals and 1 trip, 1 bag, 5 dinners

Potato Soup from Cooks.com
Ingredients:

6 or 8 large potatoes $1.52
4 carrots, diced $.35
2 stalks of celery, diced $.20
1 medium onion, diced $.52
1 can mushroom soup $.97 (Campbell’s)
water
Salt and Pepper
A little milk and corn starch to thicken

Here are the directions, but I would prepare to throw everything in a crockpot:
Peel, wash, and dice potatoes and put in large pan or stock pot. Add carrots, celery, and onion. Add water to vegetables just enough to cover them. Cook on medium heat until tender, salt and pepper to taste. Add mushroom soup. Add 2 cans of milk to vegetables and heat on medium, bring to a boil. When it comes to a boil, thicken mixture with a little milk and corn starch. Simmer for about 20 minutes.

Total is $3.56 for a family of 4, now you can add some corn bread or salad along with this and still keep it a $5 meal.

I have saved $1,406.28 so far this year!

My weekly spending 5/2 – 5/8

My grocery budget is $500 a month ($125 a week) for my family of 4. This includes food, cleaners, personal hygiene items, and sometimes a few miscellaneous items.

I shopped this week at Yoke’s Fresh Market, Albertson’s, WinCo, and Walgreens.

Budget $500
Spent $131.51 (only over my weekly budget by $6.51)
Saved $72.77
Remaining monthly budget $368.49

I love tracking my spending; I enjoy seeing how much I save.

Set those budgets, clip those coupons, watch the sales, and spend the money that you saved on a vacation or something the family enjoys.

Using Printables at Safeway, Richland WA

I go to the Safeway in Richland WA when I am shopping their sales.  They will take internet coupons but I found out today that they will not take any printable coupons that you can receive free items.  I did know this policy but I didn't think it applied to B1G1 and it does, nothing for free.  I was trying to use my B1G1 Nabisco 100 calorie snack coupon (from Nabisco facebook) and they wouldn't take it. It worked for other bloggers but not for me shopping in Richland, WA.  I'm sure Albertson's will take it so I will have to check on their prices.

So nothing for free (at all) with printable coupons at Safeway in Richland, WA.

Snuggle Exhilarations at Big Lots

I shop at Big Lots every so often. I have found recently that their price for Snuggle Exhilarations 64oz is only $4.00. That is a pretty good price when I have to purchase it at regular price. A couple weeks ago I bought my kids each a pair of Crocs for $10 each. If you sign up for their frequent shopper card you will receive 20% off when you have made 10 purchases of $20 or more. They have really good prices on cleaners, household items, and seasonal items. Just another place to save money that some people forget about.

Are you watching your items being scanned?

Keeping your eye on the cashier’s scanner will help  you save additional money.  After couponing for awhile you will know exactly how much your items are. By watching your items being scanned you can catch the error right when they happen.  Keep your store flier handy so you can show the clerk the sale price if you need to. Also watch for the discounts to show up and ask if they don’t. Don’t be afraid to ask why something didn’t ring up at the sale price.  The clerks normally know if they will show up at the end of the sale or if it will show up right away.  Normally you will have an idea of how much your bill is going to be, so check the receipt before you leave to make sure everything is correct. The best part about looking at your receipt before you leave is seeing the amount of money you saved!

Albertson's cookies and milk sale

I was Albertson's today and seen a special I thought I would share.  Purchase 1 package of Oreos, 1 package of Cakesters, and 1 gallon of Shoppers Value milk all for $3.98 (the coupons are at the register).  If you have some Oreo and/or Cakester coupons the deal will be even sweeter.  I normally don't buy Oreos because I love them way too much, but it was a really good deal. I also got lucky with a $5 off of $50 purchase coupon left from the person in front of me that I was able to use.

Don't forget to use your doublers!!

The Month of April Spending and Saving on Groceries

I have saved $1278.38 so far this year!

I set my monthly budget for $500 per month, my goal being $125 per week. This budget is for a family of 4, which includes: food, cleaning supplies, personal hygiene, and sometimes pet supplies. Our $500 budget for us is reasonable, it allows us to purchase what we like but staying on track at the same time.

For the month of April there was 5 weeks that I have budgeted for. I still was only over $34.92! I have been using most of my stock pile of meat so I haven’t purchased meat too much this month.

Month of April Summary
$500 budget
$534.92 Spent
$191.23 Saved
-$.34.92 over budget (not bad for 5 weeks in April)

This week I shopped at Yoke’s Fresh market and used their in store coupons, WinCo Foods which is about 25% savings without coupons (I also had almost $10 in coupons), and Walgreen’s; which I used Walgreen’s coupons as well as manufacturer coupons.

It’s very easy to start saving money. Here are some quick, easy tips to get started. Also go to my Coupon 101 for more information if you are a beginner.

• Set a budget. By setting a budget and sticking to it helps from spending money on items you don’t need.
• Know your prices. At first you might want to start writing prices of the items you normally buy. Once you are aware of the lowest prices you can toss that book because you will start to know your prices by heart.
• Stock up. Stock up when the prices have hit their lowest. This way your weekly shopping are for sales, items you are totally out of, and your produce.
• Coupons. Use manufacturer coupons along with in-store sales, store coupons, and store’s double coupons (like Albertson’s).
• Shop your pantry and freezer. Plan your meals around what you have in your freezer and pantry. If you are stock piling at the lowest prices you are shopping to stock not around your menu for the week.
• Homework. Do your homework before shopping. Plan your shopping trips. Read all the great money saving blogs that are out there. They sure help me. Take a look at the blogs I follow; listed on my site.
