Coupons - Binder or Not to Binder?

Should you use a binder for your coupons or not?

I have used a couple different coupon methods. When I was in the beginning couponing stages I used the basic file style coupon holder (below). That seemed to work really well for me because I could pull them out of the slot and just look through them really quick and it fit in my purse.

As I became a passionate coupon shopper I had seen people using the binder method and I thought, "Wow, I need to step up"; so I had my big heavy binder with all my coupons, sorted by date and coupon insert. But the problem for me was when I seen an item on sale that was not on my already prepared list I would have to sort through all the inserts. Then it would totally frustrate me knowing I had seen a coupon, then I couldn't find it.

So I moved to the baseball card type binder, cutting out all the coupons putting them in their individual slots. That seemed to take some time. It looked really nice and I could flip through the pages pretty easy. Problem here is that I would have to remember to take my binder in with me everywhere and leave it in the car. I was tired of carrying a heavy binder.

Now I'm back to the "old school" coupon book that I can throw in the purse and take it everywhere. The only difference is that I have two now. A grocery book and a Walgreen's type book.

I like being able to cut out the coupons, put them in their stacks as I'm cutting, then I grab them and put them in their slots in my books. Easy. I can still match my coupons up with sales, I just look under my category rather than a date.

I really think it totally depends on your personality, your lifestyle, your time, etc.

Dining out on a Budget - Ice Harbor Brewing Company

It was so wonderful to be able to go out to a nice, fun restaurant on a budget. It was my mom's birthday last night and we celebrated at Clover Island Ice Harbor Brewing Company. We had a great meal and it cost us (me, husband, 2 kids) ~$30.00 (including tip) for a $54.00 plus tip meal.

Several months ago I had purchased 1/2 price gift certificates ($50 for $25) for Ice Harbor Brewing Company from 94.9 Wolf just pay half. These gift certificates normally sell out within about 10 minutes, so when I have the opportunity I purchase as many as I can. I gave one to my mom and niece for Christmas. So she chose Ice Harbor for her birthday dinner. She had never been, and she was able to use her gift certificate for herself and my niece.

I really felt my frugal high when the comment was made that I was wearing a nice sweater and my daughter was wearing a really pretty dress. I had purchased them at Value Village (second hand store) for $2.50 each.

It was nice leaving the restaurant not stressing about how much we just paid for dinner. You can be frugal and still treat yourself.

Casserole Hamburger (serves 4)

Ingredients:

1 small onion $.38
1lb hamburger $1.98
1 can green beans $.58
1 can of mushroom soup $.78
1 package tater tots Hy-Top 32oz $1.38 (you probably won't use all of these)

Combine first four ingredients; put in a casserole dish; cover with tater tots. Bake on 350 for about 40 minutes or until hamburger is cooked. Cover with foil if browning too fast. You can also brown the hamburger and onion first and have that taters a little thawed then put it all together to reduce cooking time. Which ever is easiest for you. Also throwing a little cheese on top is really great.

Total $5.10

What's for dinner when you are on a budget?

I prepared this delicious chicken and potatoes for about $3.75. It was so good. I love my Pampered Chef stone cookware.

I purchased the chicken Albertson's using their coupon for $.69lb and the potatoes were $.99 for 10lbs.

I placed my chicken in the pan, surrounded by cut up potatoes with a little water. Coated the chicken in olive oil and seasonings. Salt and pepper on the potatoes. I have the Pampered Chef Dome Stone Cookware that I cover it with and it browns the chicken perfectly. I cooked it on 375 for about 1 1/2 hr.

Safeway (I wanted to add a little tip about Safeway. Some of the sales you have to purchase a minimum of $10 sometimes $20. My suggestion is to buy a gift card to meet the minimum dollar amount don't buy things you will not use, instead buy a Safeway gift card or one of the many they have).

Jessica Biel 's Mt. Kilimanjaro Climb

As of today, the Summit on the Summit: Kilimanjaro (SOTS) climbers (including Jessica Biel, Emile Hirsch, Elizabeth Gore, singer Kenna and more) have reached the 19,340 foot summit! A group picture from the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro is attached.

The charity climb of Mt. Kilimanjaro is raising funds and awareness for the Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program (CSDW) as well as other clean water efforts.

Dr. Greg Allgood, Director of CSDW, has joined the team as the global water expert. Prior to their ascent he took his fellow climbers to a village in Arusha, Tanzania to show them, firsthand, the toll the global water crisis is taking on communities around the world, as well as the relief efforts being used to help. What's for Dinner? Salisbury Steak and Potatoes

Salisbury Steak, Potatoes, and a little salad is what we had for dinner last night.

Salisbury Steak:

1 1/4 lb hamburger
1/4 bread crumbs
1 egg
a couple tablespoons of A1 sauce
Betty Crocker potatoes
Salad mix

Mix it all together and fry up the patties. I made gravy from a beef bouillon cube. I transferred the patties to a casserole dish, poured the gravy over it and put in the oven on 350 to keep warm. Then I made the potatoes. Everything was ready at the same time. We added a side salad.

Total cost was about $4.88 (of course I picked up the hamburger when it was on sale, as well as the potatoes).
