I received my National Consumer Panel home scanner. I heard about this from other blogs, so I signed up. I was put on a waiting list and I never expected to be selected, but I was. If you would like to sign up to be put on the waiting list go to NCP online. If you are selected you will be sent a home scanner. Each time you come home from shopping you will scan the items and upload the information once a week to NCP. By scanning items and participating in survey's you collect points that can be redeemed for gifts. I would like to teach my kids how to scan our grocery items so they can scan as I'm putting them away.
I'll keep up updating on how it's working out.

LOL -- I just returned mine! It was a waste of time for the most part because you had to enter pretty much everything by hand (as in prices). All the prices from WinCo had to be hand entered, all the prices from Albertsons had to be entered by hand. Target was the only store that I didn't have to enter prices by hand. When you have dozens of items it gets tedious.
Oh and if your route is only a four port and all the ports are used you'll need to unplug something to keep the scanner in contact with them. This was a hassle until I was able to get a switch (which took too much room itself).
To be honest, I also found myself failing to report things. You have to report EVERY purchase even a candy bar from the gas station. What a pain.
I'm going to give it a try and see how it goes. I'm not sure how long I will do it for, but I wanted to give it a try.
Thank you for the feedback.
just curious..are you still scanning your bar-codes for NCP? i was accepted to their program and am now rethinking if i want to participate.
thanks for sharing!

Yes I am. I don't think it's that big of a deal. I scan as I putting things away. I know my prices really well so I don't have to look them up on the receipt vey often. I have forgotten to upload my trips a couple times, so I'm trying to get better at that.
What about now, are you still doing it? I just got mine in the mail today, and was just looking for some reviews on it. Have you gotten any money or prizes from it yet?
I turned mine back in. I only have one line for the scanner and the phone/internet so that became a pain. When you see how many points you receive and how many it takes to get a prize I figured it would take at least three years to receive anything.
